Prof. Ebele F. Ugochukwu holds a B.Sc. (Hons) Second Class Upper Division and MB.BS both from the University of Nigeria. She is also a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians, Faculty of Paediatrics. She has held administrative positions as Head of Primary Health Care, Faculty of Medicine; Head of NAUTH Comprehensive Health Centre, Umunya; Head of Department of Paediatrics; and Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
She has published extensively on Infectious diseases, especially Paediatric HIV and TB, and has been a mentor to numerous younger colleagues in the fields of Paediatric Infectious Diseases and Neonatology. She is an examiner for the West African College of Physicians and various undergraduate Paediatric professional examinations in Nigeria; and is a reviewer to several local and international journals.
Prof. Ugochukwu was trained by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in conjunction with the University of Maryland Institute of Human Virology and Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children’s Hospital, USA, in the use of antiretroviral drugs for the treatment of Pediatric AIDS and Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV and associated complications and acquired proficiency in Antiretroviral Drug Therapy for patients infected with HIV/AIDS; Epi-Info – a database and statistics program for public health professionals; Developing patient tracking systems; Prevention of Mother-To-Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS; Data management; Creating centres of Excellence for PMTCT and ARV Care in Nigeria; Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Word.
She has applied herself to trainings and workshops as a resource person on Paediatric HIV/AIDS and PMTCT of HIV across Nigeria in various centres. She is a member of the National Paediatric HIV and PMTCT teams, and also a member of the Working Group on Control and Treatment of Childhood Tuberculosis in Nigeria.
